Horror Prompts’ Gillian Church has created 28 single-word prompts and challenged writers to write a horror drabble for each. A drabble is a story of exactly 100 words, no more, no less (not counting the title).
Can you do it?
The Prompt:
Yarn
The Submission:
“What’s that he’s got?” Sylvie asked.
“Aw, it’s just a bit of your yarn. He likes to play with it,” Tony answered, barely glancing up from his newspaper.
Crispy went wild on the rug, bopping and flailing at his target.
“I don’t have any pink yarn…” Sylvie mused, bending down for a closer look.
Crispy looked up, eyes wide; the yarn hanging from his grinning mouth. Sylvie’s blood ran cold as a bloody, mewling rat-like lizard slipped from Crispy’s mouth and flailed on the rug.
Sylvie’s disgust turned to horror as Crispy’s eyes darkened and he launched himself at her.
What did you think to the prompt for this week’s drabble challenge? Did you submit anything for it? Have you ever written any flash fiction before?
