Gillian Church posts regular Writing Prompts on her Horror Prompts Instagram account and I like to take part with a few snippets and pieces of flash fiction.
The Prompts:
Cage, Timer, Fur, Froth, Unbearable, Translate
The Submission:
The wait was unbearable. Ever since that heavy, rusted door had slammed shut, the timer had been counting down and I was left to stare, terrified, at the beast that frothed at the mouth in its flimsy cage.
Perhaps it was the sheer terror, the blood loss from the stump where my leg had once been (the creature lapped at my tacky blood trail hungrily with a forked tongue), or perhaps it was the drugs, but I just couldn’t translate the situation properly in my head.
All I could do was watch, helplessly, as the timer reached zero. The cage door burst open, and that slobbering, rancid thing was on my, its matted fur reeking of decay, its teeth sinking in…
